On Friday September 15th at 4pm, it’s time to turn up the heat on climate action in Orillia in solidarity with the global climate strike. In preparation, join us on Saturday September 9th from 10am-1pm for a sign making event. Materials will be provided but we also welcome materials if you have extra to bring! (cardboard/bristol board, paint, markers, etc)
This historic mobilization renews and reinforces global efforts focused on ending the era of fossil fuels. The scale of this mobilization and the urgency of the moment underscore the devastating impacts of recent record breaking heat, deadly floods, wildfires and other extreme weather events.
What are the global demands of the march to end fossil fuels?
Watch our promotional video for the climate strike below – with over 40 youth voices of Orillia!
In 2019, almost 400 citizens and students rallied in front of Orillia City Centre calling for early action to address the climate emergency – the largest such rally in Orillia’s recent history. Then-mayor Steve Clark encouraged the crowd to “keep your foot on the pedal” and maintain pressure on all levels of government and the general public to step up their reductions of carbon emissions. Can we get these numbers out again?!?
This is a youth-led event (a collaborative effort between Green Orillia, Sustainable Orillia Youth Council, and others). All are welcome. This event is family friendly! RSVP on Facebook here, and please share and spread the word!
