13th Annual Seedy Saturday
The 13th Annual Orillia Seedy Saturday is sprouting this Saturday, March 28th from 9 a.m.to 1 p.m. at the Orillia Farmers’ Market in the Orillia Public Library. We are ‘sow’ excited for this day of seed sharing, exchanging, and connecting!
Seedy Saturdays are local events held across the country throughout the winter and early spring whereby local seed farmers and gardeners connect to buy, trade, and share seeds. Bring your seeds to share and trade! Don’t have seeds? That’s OK – there will bee seeds there for you to borrow from the Orillia Seed Library!
Chat seeds and all things gardening with our volunteer gardeners and learn about what’s growing on in our community and how you can ‘bee’ involved! Bring your kids for kids seed/gardening related programming activities. We welcome donations of your surplus seeds, which will be shared with community gardeners and re-circulated through the Orillia Seed Library located year-round on the second floor of the Orillia Public Library.
Some things you can expect at the event include: community displays, local seed growers and vendors with seeds and produce for purchase, resources, pollinator information, and kids activities.
The event is a partnership between Green Orillia, Mariposa Pollinators, Orillia Horticultural Society, Monarch Squad, Lakehead Orillia Farm Lab, the Orillia Farmers Market, and the Orillia Public Library.
About the Orillia Seed Library: Orillia Community Gardens and the Orillia Public Library partnered in the spring of 2013 to launch this ever-growing public collection of seeds integrated within the public library system, schools and community gardens. An effort to gather, organize and freely share seeds and knowledge to realize seed and food sovereignty and promote diversity. The Seed Library is located on the second floor of the OPL.
The energy, enthusiasm, and efforts of dedicated volunteers is needed to make the event a success. If you would like to volunteer, or have any ideas you’d like to share, please connect with us by emailing greenorillia@gmail.com.
